In addition to expected changes in the vehicle configuration, which may naturally vary according to the mission's progress and its phases, a vehicle may be exposed to unforeseeable events (e.g., environmental) and to failures. Thus, vehicle survivability requires advanced adaptability and reconfigurability features, to be supported in the AIR architecture. Adaptation in the presence of hazards may largely benefit from the potential of non-intrusive runtime verification (RV) mechanisms, currently being included in AIR. Although this paper focuses on system level (timeliness) monitoring and adaptation, similar approaches and methods may be taken with respect to application/mission adaptation. respect to application/mission adaptation.
